In Jesus’ first sermon in Luke, he lifts up God’s care for and work through a foreign widow in Zarephath during the time of Elijah the Prophet. In the widow, the prophet, and Jesus the Christ, God’s power is at work to “bring good news to the poor, release to the captives, and to let the oppressed go free.”
