On this First Sunday in Lent, we hear Jesus tell Nicodemus that we must be born from above—remade not by our effort, but by grace. As we cry out with the psalmist, “Out of the depths,” we trust the promise of Romans 3:21–26 that we are justified by God’s gift of love poured out for the life of the world.
